In December, our family was scheduled to fly out of Salt Lake City to visit our family in Texas over the Christmas break. After standing in line for 45 minutes, it was finally our turn to get our tickets and check in our luggage. We gave the man our papers and ID's and then a few minutes later we hear at the saddest words.
"Sorry to inform you of this, but your flight has been canceled. We can get you out in 5 days or we can refund your money."
Needless to say, we didn't wait the five days. We jumped in the car, and drove straight home to Texas. As we traveled the 24 hours, I constantly pondered the question as to why the Lord didn't want us to fly, but rather wanted us to drive. I don't know if I ever really figured out the reasoning of it all, but I do know without a shadow of a doubt that the Lord was aware of us and our desire to get to Texas. W enjoyed our time as a family traveling in the car. The weather was freezing cold, but we only encountered 15 miles of icy roads in our 1000 miles of travel. We didn't hit any storms, and we were blessed with a warm, cozy, functioning vehicle.
As we spent the 2 weeks in Texas, I would occasionally look at the weather forecast for our travels home. This would stress me out because the weather was looking stormy no matter which path we were going to take. There was rain and snow and cold forecasted in every direction on the map. As we left that Sunday morning to head home, we did hit a little rain in Ft. Worth, but as we kept going, I noticed that we would get into these towns as the storms were leaving. I noticed a sign on the side of the road as we were leaving Texas that said "you are lucky". I thought to myself, we are not lucky, but we have been blessed and the Lord has literally parted the storms for us. We hit one more major storm as we traveled through Spanish Fork canyon, but as we turned to the Lord multiple times in prayer, he watched out for us and guided us home safely.
